The NZSL operates a three-year player ranking system established by the NZSL Committee in 2025. This system is officially recognised as the NZ Superleague national player ranking framework for New Zealand, with all sanctioned events contributing to ranking points.
Each player’s ranking is determined by a weighted points allocation: 100% for the current year, 75% for the previous year, and 50% for events held two years prior.
Points from past events are only removed once the corresponding event for the current year has concluded, regardless of when it occurs within the calendar year. If an event is discontinued, the previous year’s points remain valid until December 31 of the current year, after which they are removed from the ranking list.
Men’s ranking points contribute to the following categories:
- Men’s National, North Island, and South Island
- Men’s Over 50’s National, North Island, and South Island
Ladies’ ranking points contribute to:
- Ladies National, North Island, and South Island
- Ladies Over 50’s National, North Island, and South Island
Additionally, combined ranking lists are formed for:
- Over 60’s Open National, North Island, and South Island
- Under 23’s Open National, North Island, and South Island
Junior (U18) ranking lists are also maintained at the National, North Island, and South Island levels.
